People are living longer than ever. But 70% of those over 65 will need long term care at some point. Health insurance won’t pay for it. Medicare and Medi-cal may provide limited coverage but only if you meet certain criteria. Long term care insurance, on the other hand, can provide you the coverage you need to live your life on your terms, where you want.

 Why would I need it?

Long term care insurance is coverage that you purchase in the event that you are one of the overwhelming majority of people who will need some form of long term care as they age. Long term care (LTC) provides assistance with basic activities of daily living (ADLs) we often take for granted - bathing, dressing, eating, transfering (such as moving from a bed to a chair), toileting, and continence. LTC could be needed because of an accident, illness, cognitive issue, or as a result of aging.

You may qualify for LTC insurance benefits if a licensed health care practitioner certifies that you are unable to perform two or more ADLs by yourself for a period that is expected to last at least 90 days or require substantial supervision if you suffer from a severe cognitive impairment.

 How does it work?

Once a need for care has been established, long term care insurance helps cover the costs of care providers and support services in the location that’s right for you. For many people, that’s in their own home. Coverage helps fund not just in-home care, but can also be used to fund home modifications like wheelchair ramps or adjustments needed to make a bathroom accessible.

If you require a residential care facility or nursing home, your coverage goes toward those costs. Either way, you choose the amount of coverage that’s right for you and then apply that coverage amount to the cost of the care you need.

Your needs may change over time, which is why we cover a wide variety of care settings and scenarios.
